Lime plaster repairs.
These daub infill panels, between the oak studs. Were in need of some lime plastering repairs. At this Grade II, 16th century timber framed house. Formely a pub, in Nortiam, East Sussex. To start with, I carefully removed the blown lime plaster, keeping as much as possibe the original daub. ( Daub is clay, grit and straw, mixed together to make a thick substance, and applied to wooden laths or wattles ) I then repaired the damaged laths, using oak laths. After I had stablized the panels. I able to start applying the coats of, traditional lime plaster over daub panels. Once the base coats of lime plaster, had been built up. Allowing time to carbonate between coats. I was then able to plaster with lime topcoat finish, the panels. Leaving ready for decration.
The work was carried out in 2023.
